Morris Library’s Edible Book Festival 2014 is on, and this year it’s taking place April 1 in the first floor rotunda, from 3:00-6:00pm. So get your culinary interpretations of great (and terrible) books ready, and tell your friends and family across the campus and community to start brainstorming their delicious and punny entries for this year’s contest.
Are you searching for a literary use for your bacon supplies? Is there a terrifying illustration of To Kill A Mockingbird made entirely out of Peeps in your kitchen? Have you been waiting to get started on your edible book entry, James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ham?
In addition to the contest here at Morris, Carbondale Public Library is partnering with us, holding an Edible Book themed storytime on March 25. Our judges this year include CPL children’s librarian Pat Luebke, Art Department chair Marie Bukowski, and the inimitable Chef Bill. We’ve got our website up at: http://www.lib.siu.edu/edible-book-festival .
We will be accepting submissions on March 31 at 5:00pm until 1:00pm on April 1, by arrangement. Prizes will be awarded at 5:30pm on April 1, and entries will be on display in the first floor rotunda from 3:00-6:00pm. Refreshments will be served, and you are all encouraged to enter and attend.
The prizes this year include a pizza party for the best Registered Student Organization entry, and the Best In Show prize is a Kindle E-Reader.
Awards categories are:
- Best In Show (Amazon Kindle E-Reader)
- People’s Choice
- Least Edible
- Most Edible
- Best Book Structure
- Best Registered Student Organization (RSO) Submission (Pizza party from Primo’s Pizza)
