Morris Library offers course-related instruction, tours, and online materials designed to teach students about information access, evaluation and use. Using resources available through the library-books, journals, electronic sources, and non-print media, Library Instruction Services aims to promote academic discovery and lifelong learning.
Request for Instruction
General Library Instruction for English 100/101/102 and other 100-level classes
We provide a general introduction to the library and its resources tailored to the needs of freshmen, sophomores and transfer students. These are offered in a hands-on setting to give the student the opportunity to practice what is being taught.
Upper-Level Undergraduate and Graduate Level Courses
Librarian subject specialists provide library instruction that is tailored to meet the research needs of specific upper-division and graduate level classes. Contact the liaison for your subject area.
- Library Liaisions (to request from a specific subject specialist)
- Generic request for a class (if uncertain about who to ask)
CI 199
Morris Library librarians teach a 1-credit class offered through Curriculum and Instruction entitled "Introduction to Library Research". It is an 8-week class, and several sections are available in both the first 8 weeks and the second 8 weeks of the semesters. It is usually taught in a hands-on environment for more effective learning of the resources. The course description is as follows:
“Use of resources such as the library, electronic databases, and the Internet in order to find, evaluate, and use information effectively, efficiently, and ethically. Students will learn to determine the extent of the information needed, as well as learn to use software tools to manage their research.”
Saluki First Year & UCOL 101
The library is a central player in the university’s first-year experience initiative, known as Saluki First Year. For more information and links to material that instructors (especially those teaching freshman-level classes) will find useful, visit our research guide for the program.
