In order to borrow library materials and obtain in-house computer privileges if you are not an SIUC student or faculty or staff member, you must become a Morris Library Courtesy Card Patron. You may obtain a Courtesy Card application at the Circulation Desk. You will need to present a valid government issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, passport, or military ID). Payments may be made with a check, cash, or money order.
There are two categories of Courtesy Cards:Individual and Corporate/Research.
Individual
6 months for $50.00, 1 year for $90.00
- Must be 18 years or older or have a parent or guardian signature
- Borrowing privileges for library materials that circulate; 4 weeks loan period for books, 1 day loan period for journals
- Internet access when visiting Morris Library
- Ability to access online resources when visiting Morris Library
- Interlibrary Loan service at a per transaction cost of $30.00 ($5.00 non-refundable processing fee, $25.00 filled request fee)
Corporate / Research
6 months for $500.00, 1 year for $750.00
- Must be 18 years or older or have a parent or guardian signature
- Borrowing privileges for library materials that circulate; 4 week loan period for books, 1 day loan period for journals
- Internet access when visiting Morris Library
- Ability to access online resources when visiting Morris Library
- Up to 24 Interlibrary Loans per year, additional loans available at a per transaction cost
- Up to 5 Courtesy Cards
Reduced Cost Courtesy Cards
Certain patrons qualify for a free Individual Courtesy Card or one at a reduced cost (50% off) upon verification:
- Alumni Association member – 50% off with a current member card.
- Community Listener and Learning in Retirement – 50% off with a valid card from Continuing Education.
- Spouse or domestic partner of student, faculty, or staff at SIU – free with spouse/domestic partner card from HR for faculty/staff or from Student Development for students.
- Student or employee of John A Logan College-- Students get a free card for current semester upon enrollment verification. Faculty or staff get 50% off the purchase of a courtesy card upon current employment verification from the JALC Payroll Office.
- SIU School of Medicine Volunteer Faculty – free with current appointment card or letter from SOM.
Expiration dates on free Courtesy Cards will match the date on provided verification card or letter, except John A Logan Courtesy Cards, which are issued for current semester only and must be renewed each semester.
Courtesy Card Guidelines
In applying for a Courtesy Card from Morris Library, you agree to the following:
- The Courtesy Card is non-transferable. Sharing of logins is not allowed and violation of this policy is grounds for revocation of the card: cost will not be refunded.
- To be responsible for any assessments and/or penalties levied against my card.
- To report the loss of a Courtesy Card to the Circulation Desk at Morris Library so a restriction can be placed on its use.
- To keep a deliverable mailing address on file at Circulation. Email for notices is preferred, if available.
- To abide by Morris Library circulation policies and amendments as approved by the SIU Board of Trustees.
- Non-adherence to library policies or failure to abide by the “reasonable standards of conduct” as outlined in the SIU Student Conduct Code will result in revocation of, or ineligibility to renew/purchase Courtesy Card privileges.
- Courtesy Card users must be 18 years or older or have a parent/guardian signature.
