Kenneth G. Peterson: 1927 - 2013
Kenneth G. Peterson, who served as dean of Library Affairs from 1976 until 1991, died earlier this year at his home in North Carolina.
From Dr. Peterson's obituary:
Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Ken took a B.A. in History at Drew University in 1946 and a Bachelor of Divinity degree at Yale University in 1949. In 1962 he decided to pursue a career in librarianship. He earned M.A. (1963) and Ph.D. (1968) degrees in Library Science from the University of California at Berkeley while working as Librarian at the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Ken served as Associate University Librarian at the University of Virginia (1968-76) and Dean of Library Affairs at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (1976-91). Again, both institutions experienced significant expansion during his term of service. Ken authored many publications, including a history of The University of California Library at Berkeley 1900-1945 (1970), and held numerous offices in a variety of professional associations.
